I use a program called Pro Writing Aid to help me edit my work. I’ve found it very useful and they regularly add new features. One of the newer ones is something called critique which uses AI to review passages of between 500 to 4000 words.
I have been running it on different chapters of various books to see what happens. The results have been interesting. Even though the language of the critiques is very similar, each one has enough insight to lead you to believe that the AI is actually reading the book. However, as each result only takes 15 seconds to generate I doubt that much thinking is happening behind the scenes.
My best guess is that the AI is nothing more than grammar rules being run over a document. The results are feed into a per-prepared form and sent back to me as AI analysis. Still, it looks impressive and the program is still in beta.
Does it look real? I’ll let you decide. You can read the critique of my chapter from The Night We Met, Satisfaction, below.
